What do you need to make these air fryer baked apples?

Quantities for all ingredients given in the recipe card below.

Apples

Try to find apples that are nice and round and will stand up on their own. You can use any variety of apple that you like. I normally use granny smith apples, but some of your other favorites are Pink Lady, Granny Smith, Jazz or red delicious.

Filling

The filling in this recipe is made from butter raisins, chopped walnuts, sugar and spices. You should feel free to mix up the ingredients to make this recipe you own. Try swapping the walnuts for pecans, or use your favorite spice mix in place of the cinnamon and nutmeg (try apple pie spice mix!).

Baking pans or ramekins

As these baked apples cook they release juices, which form a sweet caramel sauce that you will not want to lose. For this reason it is important to cook these baked apples in a pan or small individual pans inside your air fryer so that the sauce is not lost during cooking.

Directions

Step 1: Mix the filling ingredients together. Melt the butter (microwave ~30 seconds), then mix the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped walnuts and raisins together in a bowl.

Step 2: Core and stuff the apples. Use an apple corer to cut out the core of the apples. If you don’t have an apple corer, you can use a sharp paring knife to carefully cut the center out.

Place the cored apples into your baking pan(s), and then stuff them with the filling. Pour a tablespoon of warm water per apple into the pan (this keeps the apples moist while they are baking).

Step 3: Bake the apples. Place the stuffed apples in the air fryer basket (in their pan). Air fry apples for 20-25 minutes until the are pleasantly soft and tender. Bake for additional 3-4 minute intervals of you want softer apples.

Serving

Remove the baked apples from the air fryer and allow them sit for about 5 minutes before serving.

To serve, pour the juice over the apples and top with powdered sugar or maple syrup, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream.

Storing and reheating

If you have any baked apples leftover, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and use within 5 days.

To reheat the baked apples in the air fryer place  them in a small pan or ramekin and air fry on high for 3-4 minutes.

Alternatively you can reheat them in the microwave – 1-2 minutes on high.
