Camembert (or brie)

You will need a whole mini camembert. Alternatively, you can use brie. Both are soft, creamy, and mild in flavor but have slight differences.

Camembert is typically stronger in taste, while brie is milder and creamier. Either cheese will work for this recipe, so choose based on your personal preference.

Olive oil

Olive oil serves as a key ingredient to drizzle over the cheese before air frying. It adds richness and flavor to the cheese and helps with the baking process.

Liquid honey

Adding honey or maple syrup over the cheese adds a touch of sweetness that complements the creamy and savory cheese. Drizzle the honey over the cheese before air frying, or serve it on the side after it’s cooked for dipping.

Garlic (optional)

Garlic is an optional ingredient, but it can add a burst of flavor to your dish. By thinly slicing the garlic cloves and inserting them into the cheese, you’ll infuse the cheese with a hint of garlic that’s noticeable yet not overwhelming.

A small pan or cheese baker

To bake the camembert without it melting through the air fryer basket, it needs to be cooked on a small pan. A small pie pan or cookie sheet lined with baking paper is ideal. Or use a cheese baker if you have one!

To serve

Serve your cheese with crusty bread, breadsticks, crackers, or even crispy potato wedges for dipping.

How to bake camembert in your air fryer

This recipe is very simple to prepare, there are just a few key steps to getting it just right:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 320°F / 160°C.
  2. Remove the camembert cheese from its foil or plastic packaging, and place it into a small pan lined with baking paper.
  3. Score the top of the camembert with a sharp knife, creating a cross pattern. Then place slices of garlic (if using) into the scores.

  1. Drizzle the camembert with the oil and the honey. For added flavor, you can add a sprig of fresh thyme or rosemary.

  1. Place the seasoned camembert in the air fryer basket.
  2. Air fry the camembert for 10 to 15 minutes, or until it becomes slightly puffy and soft to the touch. Keep an eye on the cheese as it bakes to ensure it doesn’t melt completely and lose its shape.
  3. Test the cheese for doneness with a knife – it should slide through easily with little resistance. If necessary, add more time in increments of 1-2 minutes.

Once baked, carefully remove the camembert from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving – it will be very hot straight out of the air fryer! Serve the baked camembert with sliced baguette.

Tip

  • If you want to serve the air fryer camembert with toasted baguette slices, place the baguette slices in the basket and air fry them for 3-4 minutes at the same temperature once the camembert has finished baking. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t burn.

Serving ideas

  1. Garlic bread: Toasted garlic bread is a classic accompaniment that pairs wonderfully with the creamy cheese. Slice a baguette, brush with garlic-infused olive oil, and toast in the air fryer for a few minutes until crispy. Your guests will love the combination of flavors.
  2. Crackers or breadsticks: Offer your guests a variety of crackers to pair with the camembert. Choose options with subtle flavors to let the cheese be the star of the show.
  3. Crispy bacon: Add a bit of salty goodness to your dish by serving your air fryer camembert with crispy bacon. To cook the bacon in the air fryer, place strips on the tray and cook at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until desired crispiness is achieved.
  4. Fruit: Complement the savory cheese with a variety of fresh or dried fruits like grapes, dates, dried cranberries, or pear slices. The sweetness of the fruit contrasts nicely with the earthy flavors of camembert.
