How To Cook Carrots in an Air Fryer
Air fryer carrots are one of my favorite winter side dishes (though it is just as delicious in the summer!). Sweet, melt in the mouth, roasted carrots, quick to prepare and ready in no time thanks to my trusty air fryer!
It is such a simple recipe you will be amazed at how delicious it is. The perfect last minute side dish for a winter feast.

Ingredients
Quantities for all ingredients are given in the recipe card below.
Carrots. Use full sized regular carrots cut into quarters, or baby carrots whole. You can also use frozen carrots if that is all you have, but the cooking times will be slightly longer, and you will want to flip them a few times to make sure they cook evenly. To make an attractive side dish for entertaining you can use rainbow carrots.
Butter and oil. Butter for flavor, and oil to help the carrots to roast properly. The butter is optional, and can be skipped if you want a vegan version or are really short on time, but it really adds to the flavor of the dish.
Herbs. This recipe uses thyme (dried or fresh thyme will work), but you can swap this for any other herbs or spices that you like to use with carrots. Try rosemary, oregano, parsley or garlic powder.
Honey (optional). If you want honey glazed carrots then you can add a drizzle of liquid honey. Maple syrup works too.
Directions
The prep for this recipe is very simple:
- Cut the carrots lengthways into quarters.
- Melt the butter (10-15 seconds in the microwave), mix with the oil and herbs.
- Then toss the carrot sticks in the butter-herb mix until coated.
To make honey glazed air fryer carrots, just drizzle some honey over the carrots as you mix them with the butter. It will caramelize up nicely during cooking to give you lovely golden honey roasted carrots.

How long to air fry carrots?
The carrots will take around 10-15 minutes to roast in the air fryer, depending on how large the carrot pieces are and how firm/soft you like them. Cooking times will also vary according to how powerful your air fryer is
I prefer roasted carrots tender and melt in the mouth, so I tend to roast them for longer, but you can reduce the time if you want to retain a little crunch.
Serving
I like to serve air fryer roasted carrots as a side dish for a roast dinner like air fryer roast beef, air fryer roast pork, air fryer roast lamb, or air fryer ham.
The great thing about this recipe for roasted air fryer carrots is that you can cook them to go with a main meal you have cooked in the air fryer. Because the cooking time is short you can cook them while the meat is resting.
Just prepare them while the meat is roasting, then remove the meat and cover with foil to rest for 10-15 minutes while you air fry the carrots.

How to roast carrots in an air fryer.
Ingredients
- 4 medium carrots
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp thyme (fresh or dried)
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 360°F (180°C).
- Cut carrots lengthwise into quarters.
- Place butter in a large microwave safe bowl, and microwave for 10-15 seconds until melted.
- Add olive oil and thyme to the melted butter, and stir to mix.
- Add carrot pieces to the butter/oil mix, and toss to coat.
- Place carrots in air fryer basket, and set to cook for 10-15 minutes.
- The carrots are ready when they are tender and starting to turn golden brown.
