How to cook hash browns in an air fryer

Air fryer hash browns are the ultimate in easy comfort food. Whether you have them with breakfast, lunch or dinner, they are quick to prepare, and come out perfectly in the air fryer every time.

Air frying is the best way of cooking frozen hash browns (actually lots of frozen foods). The reason for this is simple. As you start to cook frozen foods they begin to defrost before the cooking process actually begins.

This can lead to the outside of the food absorbing water and becoming soft and sometimes downright soggy! Yuck!

This is why air fryers are so great for cooking frozen hash browns. The hot air that circulates during the cooking process helps to dry this moisture as it occurs so the outside of the food will crisp up nicely.

Also, there is no need to wait for the oven to heat up like you do with a conventional oven. Preheating the air fryer only takes a couple of minutes (and some air fryers don’t even need preheating!).

Cooking Hash Browns from Frozen

Cook hash browns from frozen – do not defrost has browns before cooking. This ensures that they do not end up soggy. If you defrost them first the outside of the hash brown will absorb too much moisture to be able to fully cook and start browning before the inside dries out.

You are either left with hash browns that are under-cooked on the outside, or crisp on the outside but overcooked/dry in the middle. Neither is very appetizing!

When you are ready to cook, remove hash browns from freezer. Place the frozen hash browns in the air fryer basket. Ensure they are not overlapping, this is important so the hot air can reach every surface of the hash brown.
